V@PYD

What is your artist name? My artist name is V@PYD. I also produce under the name Vague Reference.

What kind of music do you make?  The kind of music I make can be most generally described as vaporwave, although some call it late night lofi. I dabble in vaporfunk and vaporhouse as well. I also recently did a drone album called “Cosmos 42″… but yeah, vaporwave. I describe my sound as “enhanced plunderphonics”, which means that I take songs, sample them, and add FX and beats on top of them. There is really not much more to it. If there is anything that I want the listener to take away from my tunes, it’s that they have a nice chill time while listening to it.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I am turning 38 years old this summer and started making music when I was 14. I took a break from creating music in 2011 and only started again when I discovered vaporwave in late 2016.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? I just wanna make vaporwave. I don’t care about becoming rich, but I would find it nice if I would become famous. Not in a Rolling Stones kind of way, but maybe in a Vektroid/telepath kind of way…

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? I am just a random vaporwave artist who makes tunes from stolen samples. Just listen to the music, it’s all about the music.

Shaton

What is your artist name? Shaton is my name and I’m from The Bahamas.

What kind of music do you make? I make a mixture of R&B and POP music, with elements of other genres. My producer and I build all of my instrumentals from scratch, pulling sounds from a bunch of genres to craft the unique sounds that each of my records possesses. From Afro-House, EDM, Folk, Classical, Electronic, Dubstep, Trap, Hip-Hop literally anything that gives the song it’s own storyline I use while building each of my fracks. I’m very hands on with every step of the creative process for the music. So I go in with my song idea then I sing it to my producer who’s amazing at what he does and we just build from there until it’s right. Adding and subtracting instruments non stop until we both say “wallah, this is it!”. As far as writing, I write all of my songs without any help because I figure at this stage in life no one can tell my story better than I can. I write from a place deep that’s oftentimes cut off from what i’m usually thinking or feeling until I go through something that’s life changing in the moment or even sometimes it’s almost a clairvoyance where I‘m writing and don’t know where it’s coming from until it actually happens then I sit and digest what I actually wrote. My process is from a personal perspective and usually music inspires my music. I’d hear something that I think is different and edgy and that sparks the words automatically. I’d grab my phone and just go with the melody that’s in my head throwing endless metaphors, similes and other phrases together to tell a story that is often heard or experienced but these days rarely spoken of. It’s almost taboo for a guy to sing about things that are real life situations be it I’m heartbroken, confused about life or even just the simple things that are for some reason hard to figure out. I think of my music as reflective music where I want you to bop your head to the music but my words are the key focus. Each song has its own story and no two of my songs sound the same. I look to artists that aren’t afraid to push the envelope and just make music. It doesn’t have to be what is current and popular but what they feel at any given moment. Artists like Dawn Richard, Solange, Mariah The Scientist, Rihanna, August 08, FKA twigs, Childish Gambino, R.LUM.R, Azealia Banks, SZA would be some of my more modern influences that I look to for crafting unique songs.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I started taking music seriously at the age of 18. I’m 26 now and I always loved listening to music as a kid and I’d sing around the house to the annoyance of my family at the top of my lungs.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? I’ve been doing this on my own since I began so there’s a lot of ground I haven’t even come close to touching. So I’m looking to get a solid team behind me that believes in the vision I have and the music I make so I can get to as many ears as possible. The goal is really just to be heard. I love making music, but I don’t just make it for me to sit at home and listen to it by myself. I want the world to hear what I have to say and just appreciate the effort put into the beauty behind the madness. Financial success of course would be good but humble pie is my favorite dish so I’ll always be full of humility, no matter the type of riches comes my way, be it the love of fans on a small stage or big stage. Once we all can vibe out together that’s my fulfillment.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? Doing this on my own professionally for about six years has definitely taken me through the ropes. I’ve learned some aspects of the business while meeting people from literally every continent. I have two iTunes top ten projects, a number one iTunes single, two top ten singles and eight top 40 singles across other international charts and I couldn’t have done it without the support and love of the fans. I don’t plan to stop any time soon because the universe is my oyster so I’ll take my voice from one end to the next. I’m currently working on my third project that is tentatively titled “Boy Problems” and three singles have been released from the upcoming project. The latest release “Perspective” released in February has seemed to taken the world by storm so I definitely have to keep the momentum going.

695 Qua

What is your artist name? My artist name is 695 Qua, it was Famous Qua but that wasn’t it so I needed a change. 695 came from the bus me and my friends rode during high school and those moments when i was on the bus or getting off. I told myself, “yeah I wanna do this.”

What kind of music do you make? Just some stuff I hope to get your mom to vibe out to in the car. The kind of music I make is all off of emotion or whatever I’m dealing with at times. Carti influenced me a lot man. He just had that style and voice that had me like “damn I could do this too, I wanna live that type of lifestyle.”

How old are you and when did you start creating music? 19 and I started in 2016. When I started I didn’t even know if I wanted to take it serious but I just wanted to try something new and now I just feel like why stop. If it blows up then it’s meant for the world.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? My goals are to keep this going as long as I can and just get as big as I can get to the point where I could inspire others

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? That you could do anything if you really put your mind to it and put in the work. My music you could get a bunch of different emotions as soon as the beat comes on but at the same time just vibe out.

Sallee

What is your artist name? Sallee

What kind of music do you make? I describe my music as alternative pop as I take influence from the heavy music I grew up listening to as well as whats circulating out there in the top 40 world. My tracks are always centered around big, melodic vocals (think Evanescence and Demi Lovato), electronic vibez (think La Roux and PVRIS) all tied together with moody beats with a throwback twist (think The Weeknd)! When it come to what I write about I use my music as a form of therapy, jotting down every experience I’ve had and turning it into something anyone listening can relate to in their own way. I want my music to slap you in the face but also give you a big warm hug, I want to see people dancing but also allow you to get those emotions out and maybe have a bit of a cry. Its like sharing diary entries but they can be personalised to the listener.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? Apparently I’m 30 years young now. Where did the time go? Singing has always ran through my veins. I was discovered by a teacher at 7 years old in music class who suggested that my parents invest in what she called my ‘natural talent’. I’ve been singing and performing ever since. When I was around 16 years old I was gifted a guitar for my birthday and properly started jotting down songs and playing them for family members and posting shitty Mac Book recordings on my MySpace music page. Those were the days.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? All I have ever wanted from music/singing/my life is to perform. I don’t care where, I don’t care for who and I don’t care how, I just want to share my voice and passion with anyone who will listen. The stage is my safe space, its my happy place and its where I really let life sink in. Looking into a crowd of people feeling the emotion and the words you’re sharing, thats something you can’t buy and an experience I will always relish in. The ultimate goal is to share that stage and my voice with people from around the globe traveling and performing world wide.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? Music is so important, its lets me express my feelings in a way that allows me to be vulnerable but safe because I know music won’t ever hurt me. This is the same for me as a listener. The artists and songs that I listen to give me a chance to feel my feelings or share in theirs to feel some sense of community and helps me remember that I’m not alone in what I’m going through. The real beauty is that within the same couple of minutes it can invite me to get up and dance my woes away. Thats all I could ever want from my own music. I just want to sing my feelings and i want the listener to feel theirs as well but know that we are in this together ❤

Yung N Icy

What is your artist name? Yung N ICy

What kind of music do you make? Most styles of trap and rnb with all kinds of other influences here and there like dance hall or afrobeats and sometimes metal. I tend to have phases between experimenting with different genres, styles and sounds while making music that’s also relevant to what’s hot today. Overall I just want any artist listening to feel inspired to create their best song possible when hearing my beats.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? 22 but my soul at least couple thousand which is how I know so much lol. In 5th grade up until high school I played percussion in the school band. When I got to high school I started playing around with producing around age 16-17. Started taking it seriously and making it my business around 19-20.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? Overall with any artists I work with my goal is for them to make their best song ever when working with me. I also want to be THE go-to producer in the industry almost like Jahlil beats or Metro Boomin were and still are for some artists. Want to put myself on to put on other people, become financially independent and be able to show others how to do it whether it’s within music or business.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? I want to shake the world and shift the atmosphere with this music. I’m constantly looking for new artists to create with and I’m genuine which I know in this industry and this world is not something you see as often as you should. I’m also VP of the collective Support Art where we do just that, support art. Our collective has artists, producers, gfx artists, engineers as well as runs promo and playlist placements. Basically a one stop shop for whatever an underground artist would need just have to tap in.

Corey Drumz

What is your artist name? My name is Corey Lawrence Banks so never get that part twisted (lol) but in music, call me Corey Drumz ‘cuz I beat mics.

What kind of music do you make? I’m a pure hip-hop artist. My music is my journal, my personal story of life and everything that is in it. It’s my way of communicating through the universe. It’s my connection to the ancestors, the higher levels of existence. My music is my soul.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I’m the youngest son of 2 musicians so I started out in music at birth, but at the young age of 11, I became the male soloist singing for my Junior High School chorus in Hollis Queens, NY and honestly, the first time I stood in front of a large audience, I was hooked. Growing up, I was influenced heavily by local legends, Run DMC & LL Cool J, artists by the name of Romeo the Lover, Spank G, Mikey D, among others. Once I entered High School, I decided to develop my skills as a writer and hip-hop became my passion. I’m a product of the Mr. Magic’s Rap Attack era, being one of those kids that religiously recorded pause tapes every Friday & Saturday. My moms passed when I was 14, so my grandmother moved into our house with me and my pops lived in Flatbush Brooklyn, so I was also heavily influenced by my environment, coming up in NYC during the crime infested era of the 80’s & 90’s. My music is a reflection of my life, telling my story as I live it. I express that in everything I do, so I tell my story to give both the positive and negative aspects, showing a purpose, giving those who listen to my music a true message through the reality of the life I live, have lived.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? My goal as a musician is to enlighten my listeners with real life truths, knowledge and information that will not only entertain, but allow them to possibly see things in their own lives more clearly, relating to them through my experiences in a pursuit of truth outside of traditional learning by simply looking for it in everything.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? The main thing I want the reader to know about me and my music is that I am not a “fad” artist, making music for possible fame fortune. I make music to enrich spirits and to show true skill as a lyricist without over thinking technicalities. I just rhyme the way I rhyme. Know that when you listen to Corey Drumz music, you are witnessing my true life experiences and not fabricated experiences and material posessions invented to influence my listeners into believing falsehoods of grandeur. I am Corey Drumz and my life is 4real just like those I make my music for.

Lens

What is your artist name? Lens. I chose this as a result of my focus that I put into my craft, whether helpful or detrimental.

What kind of music do you make?
I started out making “Rap” but I’ve slowly transitioned into just doing what feels right, as I produce, record, and master all my songs. I’ve been incorporating genres I enjoy into my music as my skills allow me to do so. For example, in my next project (which is currently unreleased) I have multiple Rock-inspired tracks and guitar is featured through-out the EP, although most of the tracks stay true to my roots. I make my own style of music, really, as I’ve taught myself everything I know, but that’s not to say I don’t have my fair share of influences.I first started to really listen to music in Middle-School. I got my own headphones and would wear them all day listening to a werid mash-up of 2000s rap and 70-80s rock: Eminem, Queen, Pink Floyd, Denzel Curry. My perfectly curated playlist… Then I got distracted on girls, sadly, but re-entered my life towards the end of 9th grade. At this point, I had a lot of free time, and not a lot to do, and found substances to cure that boredom.Eventually, this came to a halt as I saw what it was doing to my life, so, I moved out, got my GED, and this is when I experienced REAL free-time. The kind that doesn’t go away. So, to fill this time, and not feel like a lazy couch-potato, I started to try and find some hobbies. Upon some retrospection, I really enjoyed music and it let me get away from my life a little. I started researching how music was even made, starting with the basics, googling “What is music?”, and, “How is music made?”. This did not get me far, but slowly, I started to amass more and more knowledge about my new favorite topic: MUSIC. I was obsessed with learning theory and all the rules to this world I previously knew nothing of, eventually making my way to download the FL Studio trial, and start making MUSIC. Or so I thought. Turns out I sucked. But that didn’t stop me, I kept trying, I kept failing, I bought new hardware, I kept trying, I kept failing, I bought FL Studio, I kept trying, I kept failing. BUT! Eventually something would click and I’d get that little bit better. Over a year or so of this, and I was in a state where I knew how to talk about music, and was semi-okay at coming up with it, but putting it all together was HARD, hence my releases of singles only for my first 15 songs D: Now, on to working on a multi-track project 😀

How old are you and when did you start creating music? Currently, I’m seventeen.
I started creating silly raps with my homies and little melodies in the FL Studio trial about two-and-a-half years ago, at fifteen.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? I want not to be successful, but to look back upon what I have done and not have regrets.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? I am kind of crazy, weird, eclectic, and creepy, but its not like I can stop doing this music thing, it’s built into me, so you might as well start listening, haha. I hope when you listen to my music, you hear the care I put into the craft, and maybe understand where my craziness, weirdness, eclecticness, and creepiness come from. It’s all in there 😀

Matrixx

What is your artist name? I’m going by Matrixx, which is just my birth name with another X

What kind of music do you make? If I had to put it into words, (which is often hard) I’d say I make competitive type of rap so like the “in your face” bars. At the same time I can switch it up and be a lot more creative and influential, honestly I let the music make itself. Sometimes I’ll feel like proving my skill is superior to others, other times I’m trying to uplift and motivate the people listening, and there’s even times I just speak my mind during the dark and depressing times. At first I was going for that aggressive sound, which is weird cuz my main influence at the time was Tyga. Even today I’m influenced by him and a good bit of my flow came from trying to match his back then, alongside others like lil Wayne, Ace Hood, and Meek Mill. This did end up changing to artist like J.Cole, Mick Jenkins, Kendrick, etc. As for my process I usually set the mood wherever I am and listen to beats until I hear one I like, then the lyrics just come to me. I use a lot of complex words and multi syllable rhyme schemes and I think that’s fine I shouldn’t have to change up anything about me unless it wasn’t progressing, and that’s what I want listeners to understand as well.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I’m 20 I’ll be turning 21 on August 1st, so leo gang. I was 14 and in 6th grade when I recorded my first verse officially, it was a remix to Tyga’s make it work song. I use to think I was the best in school at rapping, walking around like nobody’s touching me with the pen, ever. Soon after I listened again and it didn’t feel right to rap like that, this was when I got on Kendrick and Cole heavily and took 3 years off to practice and improve, ever since then I’ve been a heavy hitter, so I’ve been told.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? My biggest goal is to sign to Dreamville but I feel like almost every serious artist wants that. All the more reason to improve and make it happen, though if that doesn’t work out I’ll start my own label and bring light to other artist that are overlooked talent. Other than that I just want to work with my favorites and other good musicians as well as travel the world. Money is a thing I want but it’s not the focus, I need money for essential music career things, plus I want a family so money is a goal for sure.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? Definitely give me a listen, you may like something or a few things and if not that’s fine too since you gave me a chance. Officially, I’m only just a year in taking music serious and I’m working on a full length project. This one will be completely different from my last EP Elevation, if you honestly want to know the kind of sound I’m bringing then think of like a young J.Cole trying to make his name, that’s heavily influenced by Mick Jenkins, and sounds like Dave East lol and you get me. My best song is called Faith and it’s from the Elevation EP I mentioned, it landed a spot on GaryVee’s Monday to Monday playlist and so far it’s my best song in my opinion. Lastly I love collaborating with others so if you ever want to work feel free to contact me and we can talk.
