Working with rappers out of Hartford and New Britain – I experienced a lot of hate from people I was “helping” – my mistake was assuming – that the help overshadowed the petty things that make people hate on me.

EVERYONE TALKS – and ANYONE – can be a “cheerleader” that’s the least of what I do <~ but – if you can play the part – you have the ability to collect everyone who don’t “Like” me and generate a solid movement – that – will – end up – costing you – so much time – it’s not funny.

Feds Say Drill Music is Helping Them Investigate Gangs in Major Cities

July was a bad month for NYC – experiencing a double digit increase in crime – we are happy to report that the number of homicides seems to be dropping while other crimes – are getting a solid boost from new and old offenders alike.

Overall, so far this year compared to the same time frame last year, grand larcenies are up a whopping 48%, from 19,624 to 29,129, car thefts soared 43%, from 5,345 to 7,444, and robberies jumped 39.4%, from 7,099 to 9,893 incidents, according to the data through Sunday. 

Murders were down 4.2% so far this year over last, and shooting victims and shooting incidents were both down, 6% and 7.8% respectively.

But is that enough? It seems while we celebrate our freedom to speak / dress and act how we want – we are watching a % of our youth – adopt a criminal lifestyle that requires a soundtrack – depicting real crimes – real victims and real situations that have nothing to do with the audience – but – is worth discussing for the artist who claim to have industry ambitions.

We see DRILL MUSIC and the DRILL CULTURE expanding around the world – London UK is seeing a increase in the culture that can be traced by to the streets of Chicago.

Feds are known to follow the Drill scene to figure out – who has a problem with who and where they might need to step in to prevent violence. They also use the drill music videos to identify gang members who may be involved in crimes they are openly investigating.

While Gangster Rap and music that glorifies street life isn’t something that it new – the new drill culture requires that each “crew” or “gang” compete for turf in the industry of music – and – in many cases – on social media platforms.

This is something that literally – creates tension among many communities because local street gangs often associate with national/global organizations who carry the same “beef” from coast to coast.

Our desire – to consume violent content through social media has put us in a dangerous spot as most people assume they are watching reality t.v. vs. reality with real victims and real criminals.

Labels and fans alike have to make a decision – is the music so valuable that it’s worth the lives of these artist who identify with the drill lifestyle – or – are we going to make a legit boundary where – reality has to stop and entertainment can begin.

We can all point fingers and blame the people who are contributing to the rise in gun violence that circulates the drill scene – but – we must start by holding ourselves accountable. I think we can all agree – we love the music – we just don’t want to include the murder and other things that come along with the lifestyle.
