DREgottheBLUES

What is your artist name? DREgottheBLUES

What kind of music do you make? Hip Hop/Neo-Soul – I draw inspiration from life as naturally as possible. Growing up in a strong church community, I grew accustom to hearing live music every Sunday. I didn’t know it then but that played a huge part in inspiring my musical taste years down the road. Those gospel and soul elements bled not only into the sonics of what I like to hear, but my pen game also. Throughout high school, I was exposed to many different things: classic rock, jazz, funk, spoken word… the list goes on. Initially, I was just a fan of these art forms but as I grew older I began to notice ways in which I could add these nuances to my own craft, making it as unique and personable of an experience as possible. Art is an extension of self and I consider that whether I’m writing poetry/music, graphic designing, filmmaking or directing. It’s hard to view myself as a rapper or a recording artist because those terms don’t encapsulate enough of my talent to serve as a proper definition for who DREgottheBLUES truly is.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? 23. I wrote my first lyrics in ninth grade at age 13 after watching some friends perform in a school talent show. After that, I never really slowed down. It transformed from a hobby to a natural impulse pretty quickly. Before I knew it, I had multiple notebooks filled with raps and an active mind filled with dreams and ideas.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? I want to impact as many people as possible. I create music that heals, energizes, comforts and inspires people ultimately helping them become better versions of themselves. Performing is probably my favorite part of it all. I dream of traveling the world and evolving my sense of self from studying different cultures and people and places. I believe tying this wide range of experiences into the music creates a unique experiences with the capabilities of promoting world change.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? I owe my drive and determination solely to where I’m from. Growing up in Hartford County, CT, you don’t regularly see examples of success. There were no OG’s. There were no artists in the city who were popping off and paving a lane for those who followed. I graduated college and quickly realized what I want from life wasn’t something anyone else could hand me. The first step is to see it, the second is to go get it. For the past 4 years or so, I’ve been performing regularly at various venues throughout New York and have a growing fan base inclusive of all ages and backgrounds. Currently, I’m based in the Bronx and was recently featured along with my band on an NBA & United Master’s sponsored live stream as an up and coming independent artist. This being the first of many accomplishments to come, I feel that I already serve as a testament that anything you want in life is yours. You just have to be creative enough to attain it.

G5

What is your artist name? G5…I’m actually the 5th generation in my family with my name so I simply abbreviated it to G5.

What kind of music do you make?
Any type of music associated with hip hop. I’m also a writer and can write any type of music, so all types of artist hit me up let’s work! Most of my music does revolve around the trap rap culture. I do like to make music based off of my lifestyle and things I saw first hand growing up. I do want the younger generation to understand that the word trap doesn’t always necessarily have to do with something illegal. If you work a 9 to 5…if you go to school…if you are a artist that is your trap, that is your hustle! As far as my process goes when it comes to creating music I normally listen to about 10 beats a day and try to come up with at least 3 different hooks. What I want the listener to take from my lyrics is that I’m a real nigga and what you see is what you get, and also I want the listener to know as long as you trying something to better your life you are a true hustler! No matter what it is go out and get it…only the strongest survive, especially in this day and age.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I’ve been rapping since a young git….started off as a battle rapper back in middle school…actually have aspirations of stepping back into the battle world.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career?
First and foremost I make music because I love it..its my passion. As far as my goals obviously I would love to have a hit record some day…but mainly I would really be interested in writing for established artist. I would fit well in the writing world.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? I want the reader to know in Jersey, G5 is top 5 dead or alive!! And if you’re an aspiring and got some dope content let’s work!!! #DC

Most my songs are unreleased so the variety doesn’t show but hopefully the next few months of releases show them. My process is kind of basic I just beat hunt on beatstars for an hour or so then mumble till I find some flows, write then take it to the studio. I want my listeners to have an escape through my music whether that be turning up senselessly or going through a journey listening to my lyrics. My writing is my strong suit everything else is just waiting to catch up.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I started writing around 16/17 and started taking it more seriously at 21/22. I’m 23 now.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? I want to bring people together through my music and let people know it’s okay to be themselves. In terms of success I want to reach a level where I get the respect of the current greats like Drake and Cole.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? Everything I write is authentic even when it doesn’t sound authentic it comes from the right place
