Kelvin Taylor

What is your artist name? Kelvin Taylor

What kind of music do you make? The music that comes forward in this sound if I have to name it would be classic RnB. The music that comes across is a definitely a mood. Songs could be based on the chords or the subtle percussions that lightly outline the tempo which brings direction. The definition of the music to me is literally a vibe. Interpretation is left to the listener and if there is anything I want them to take from that is some sense of freedom in their own thinking.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I am 32 years of age. The first time the artist emerged was at the age of 9 at a family talent show in my hometown Franklin NJ, with my Sierra Leonean peeps! I sang a Puffy and R Kelly song that was popular at the time. First time hearing myself back on a record had to be about 15 years old with my friends and a computer microphone which we eventually graduated to fruity loops the free version, a 200$ Sam ash mic, and an m-audio box.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? I’ve already reached my goals in all aspects that’s how I’m here now, so the sky is the limit!

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? If I could leave you with any thoughts I would say there are no mistakes just missteps so there are no missed lessons! My music will give you all of those concepts if you listen to listen!

Melotika

What is your artist name? Melotika

What kind of music do you make? Alternative Electro Pop. My music fuses rich and smoky vocals over sultry electro beats, blending alternative sound design with what I like to call “smart pop.” The songs I craft are infectious, dance-able tunes. My latest release, “Bury The Bones” is a dark, eclectic blend of Synth Pop and Alternative Rock. The brand new single ‘Bury The Bones’ is meant to be mysterious, haunting, and reveals suppressed dark emotions about an unhealthy, fictional love story. As a society, we have a weird obsession with psychopaths, murder and lust. This song is a creative take on these subjects from the perspective of an individual with an unsettling mind. I like to tell stories through my music whether it comes from personal experience, or altering my personal experiences into something more fictional. The tunes I compose are genre bending. I try not to shy away from speaking my mind about personal topics. “Don’t Believe (You Speak)” touches on breaking free from abuse. “Bittersweet Reality,” is a tune off my debut EP featuring cool synths set to a hypnotic dance-wave beat. The song and vocals have a sense of bitter resignation as while singing about the conflict between our reality and the self-image we project to the world.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I am 27 and I was 22 when I started creating music.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? My goals are to reach an audience that can relate to my music and feel empowered. I am currently working very hard in crafting songs that make sense and can be played on the radio. Another focus is to continue booking shows and tours.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? Growing up in the suburbs of Montreal, Melotika from the start has gone through the struggles that can often plague a young creative mind. After years of headbanging at festivals and dancing in night clubs in Montreal, Melotika dropped out of University and began a music production program in 2014. Headstrong after receiving criticism from former peers and some family members, Melotika completed the trade and experimented with Sound Design. She then moved to the big city of Toronto to further discover herself and create her brand new music persona.
I want my readers to know that it is never too late to fulfill your dreams. When most musicians and artist begin at a young age, I started when I was 22. Don’t give up, life is short and yours to live.

Darren Gillis

What is your artist name? Darren Gillis

What kind of music do you make? The style of my creations comprise of a country/bluesy feel. I love the sound of acoustic. I have always enjoyed sitting around a camp fire with a guitar in my hand under the stars. I have recently started looping which allows me to create music as a one man band. I remember as a kid listening to legends such as Johnny Cash, John Fogerty and Lee Kernaghan to name a few. I have a deep appreciation for all styles of music. At this time I am moving more towards easy listening country music. I just recorded a song called “Freedom” and I’m back at the studio in two days, as I write this to record “ I’ll talk to the whiskey”. I’m very excited about these two new creations which come from the heart. My creations are all based on some kind of experience along life’s road.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I am 38 and I was in my teens when I first started playing around with the guitar. I remember crashing the karaoke bars and singing the night away with family and mates. I started songwriting about 5 years ago and have decided 2020 is my year to get serious. I have been slowed down somewhat with the COVID epidemic, but restrictions are easing now and I’m keen to get back to the studio and make some noise.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? I guess it is all dependent on the audience. It’s my hope to get that one song out there that really engages the audience. Then I will continue to keep them engaged as best I can. In any case, I plan to make each song better than the last as a self goal. At this time everything is new, this is my first step to getting out there via the various streaming applications like Spotify and such.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? Music is my outlet and I love creating all original music. As I mentioned, all of my music comes from the heart and is based on some kind of experience. It gives me a great outlet around my frontline job and has certainly helped to heal the heart. “Drunk Solo Blues” was a bit of a cheeky number and a very raw song with very minimal mixing required. My latest creations will differ somewhat with some very cool additional echo affects and harmonies. I hope you enjoy my music as much as I enjoy creating them. Stay tuned for my upcoming new releases.

JL Divinci

What is your artist name? JL Divinci

What kind of music do you make? I make feel good music, my vibe is complicated. I love electronic music, hip hop, classical and dancehall music. So I always want to create music that I find myself listening to as well. So I was born in Jamaica, but traveled back and forth until 2000 when I officially migrated permanently to the States. I spent my childhood listening to the 90’s Dancehall scene, with artists like Beenie Man, Bounty Killa and Mad Cobra and Shabba Ranks just to name a few. When I moved to the states I was already getting into the late 90’s Hip Hop into the 2000s. During my late high school years, I developed a love for Alternate, Rock, and Pop. So my process is very fun, I always start by exploring different sounds and I love the freedom of being independent and going with what feels right. I usually write first then once I have the melody I try to make the words and song my own. I want listeners of my music to have fun. To understand that you can listen to whatever makes you feel good. Being different is important so never conform to other’s expectations.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I am 36 and I was 28 when I started creating music?

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? My goal for my music career is very simple, I just need one big hit, something that will stand the test of time and sound great 100 years for now. I see music as a business and much as a creative outlet.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? I want readers to know that my music is for all of them, regardless of creed, culture local, etc. If you love music then listen. Even though I wasn’t born here, a cultural melting pot makes this country great. So let’s not lose that.

ToneBuTTa

What is your artist name? My artist name is ToneBuTTa

What kind of music do you make? I make Soul Rap Music, and my reason for using the term soul rap as a genre is because both my music and style are very eclectic, and I feel as though that I’m too versatile & diverse to be categorized in one classification or bracket unless it is broad and inclusive. Soul Rap is my way of saying as long as you have a soul in your body you are going to be able to relate to me in some type of way, or feel where I’m coming from because my music is my life story, my testimonies in rhythmic form. Sharing my life experiences, the good and the bad, the ups and the downs, the trials and tribulations that we all often face With the intent to be a light to others and uplift, motivate, encourage & empower people Young & old for the better of humanity. Always keeping GOD at the forefront, representing righteousness and faith as a Believer in Jesus Christ. Well I have various musical influences, that’s one reason why I believe my style is so eclectic, I’m heavily influenced by Go-Go Music which is a cultural sound and music genre originated in my Hometown Washington D.C. I’m also very influence by the oldies and soul music from the early 50’s & 60’s, that good ole doo wop lol my favorite Soul singer is David Ruffin, also I love Jazz, Classical, and blues, which is why I am heavily influenced by the music of Muddy Waters, John lee hooker, John Coltrane, Frank Sinatra & Many other blues & Jazz singers, plus music from  from the 30’s & 40’s.I’m certainly a product of the rap era in the early 90’s, Hip hop & gangsta rap. My favorite rappers growing up was dudes like Soulja Slim, B.G, Scarface, MC Eiht, Project Pat, Spice 1, MAC, Various artist from the south, the westcoast,& eastcoast. and local artist from D.C. I’m influenced by the 90’s r&b as well and old school hip hop like slick rick, Douge fresh,   & heavy d. And II can’t forget my reggae, soca, bob marley, shabba, mad cobra, buju banton, Luciano, Dennis brown, tenor saw, 90’s dancehall. Lol my music taste is just broad, I’m a different type of vessel, very peculiar & unique, that’s why I feel that I can’t be categorized because I can come in any form or style and still keep the same substance, but yet, never lose my originality.

How old are you and when did you start creating music?
I’m 30 years Blessed, i’ll be 31 this year on Aug 7th

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? To speak life the younger generations and show people that its okay to be original and do your thing, you don’t have to follow what everyone else is doing to be successful. And I just want to be a blessing to others with my testimonies and life stories about what I been through and How GOD is always able to bring you out of any circumstance or mess that you’re in no matter how bad it is. I want to be a light to those who are in dark situations, and in this dark world looking for a better way. But Ultimately and first and foremost, I want to represent GOD with everything I do and say, with my life, because I owe everything I have to GOD, everything I have is because of GOD even though I certainly don’t deserve it, GOD’S Love for me has been so unfathomable, I just want to represent for Him and give GOD the Glory with every opportunity and platform that He allows me to have. I want others to know about the goodness Of the LORD, and that with GOD all things are possible!
