KEV

What is your artist name? KEV

What kind of music do you make? It’s really hard for me to pinpoint the type of music I make. My music really doesn’t have a genre I just happen to categorize it as hip-hop. I realistically just make the music that I’m feeling regardless of what genre it may turn out to be. I don’t allow myself to be constructed by one specific genre, music as an art form. I can’t just express myself in a rap song or a hip-hop song. If it happens to be a pop song or R&B or Funk or reggae or rock then so be it. My music comes from how I feel at any given moment. It’s truly my therapy, I could be feeling down and write a song about that or I can write a song about my wife and about how much I love her. I could write songs that are accessible to everyone who listens to them. I’m influenced by so many different artists it would take me forever to list them all. Just a few of them are, Heavy D, Common, George Clinton, Babyface, OutKast, smokey Robinson, Quincy Jones, 2 Chainz, Killer Mike, RCHP, RATM, GAP band, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, like I said the list could go on. My process is probably different from a lot of people. It’s hard for me to really explain how I write a song, I could make the beat first or I could start with the opening line of the song and write that. Ultimately I want people to relate to my music. If at least one person out of 100 people who listen to one of my songs and feel and understand the message I’m conveying, then I’ve done my job.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? 38 and I started writing at the age of 13, mostly poetry and some songs. I didn’t take it seriously until I was 28 and going through the darkest time in my life. My good friend got me in the studio and gave me an outlet for my pain and once I got all that out, then all the good starter to come from it.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? My goal is to inspire artists to be creative and a harness that I make what they feel and not what they think others want to hear. I want artists to have no fear when creating, I want to show them that you can step outside the box you can carve your own lane and you can drive comfortably in that lane knowing that you’re doing it on your terms. I want artists to know that it’s OK to be vulnerable and it’s OK to be authentically, unapologetically, boldly and fiercely yourself. I definitely want to work and grow with artists and help them realize their potential. I don’t wanna do it for them but I would love to help them find their sound and who they are in the process

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? My music is me, it’s an extension of who I am. It’s my dark times and it’s my good times. It’s an accurate reflection of who I am, what I’ve gone through in this life and who I aspire to be. Have I made the occasional ignorant song that might be considered a “club banger”, yes I have and have fun doing it, yes I did. Ultimately my music is for those who are too afraid to create something that reflects exactly who they are and how they feel. My good friend and fellow artist Q Dot says “Kev’s is definitely a different door to go into in the music space right now. He has got the trap door, the conscious door, the quasi R&B door and then there’s the Kev door. It’s got all those elements lol it’s got the trap door handle, the conscious door hinges, the R&B door frame, and the door itself is something else lol. I don’t know how else to describe it man.”

Reggie Blu

What is your artist name? Reggie Blu

What kind of music do you make? I make Bouncy HipHop/Rap music ya diggggggg. When I make music it has to make me want to move or scrunch my face like I smell something horrible. My favorite part of the process is, was, and probably always will be writing. I’ve always had a love to just write since I like the way a pen feels in my hand. It’s like therapy. When I make music I want to give someone a journey of life inside of my brain. It has to feel colorful. I picked that up from Stevie Wonder cause even though he’s blind, all his music has distinct colors in every song. And if I can express the feelings I carry with me in as much detail as possible then I usually feel satisfied. Also, I like saying shit that makes someone wanna rewind and be like “ayo what dude just say!?” I got that from people like Eminem, Jay Z, Lupe, Nas, Andre, Wayne, Biggie, and other greats. But the bouncy shit I get from other super creatives like Rich the Kid, Uzi, Rico Nasty, Kevin Abstract, and so on. I’m a big r&b head too though. Jhene, SZA, Rihanna, Ne-yo and Frank Ocean show me how to use my voice in creative ways. My head is like a big ass bounce house where shit is constantly doing back flips haha.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I would say about 17 or 18 when I started dabbling in recording and making beats. People kept breaking into my house and always stealing my shit so I had setbacks but eventually I got some sturdy shit to lock down and practice. Eventually over time I just got better at it. It’s all about being superior to who you were yesterday.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? My goal is to be a walking affirmation where I am from. Prove that I can do what I love for a living, make decent money and take care of and eventually retire my Dad and take care of my Mom the way they deserve and need right now. I trust the process though.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? I’m going to be the one of the greatest to ever live. One of the best writers to ever do it. But more importantly, to live in color and always find a reason to keep going and keep fighting no matter what you believe in.

FORGOTTEN ONE – “Him”

Where did the name of this song come from? It came from the song basically being a conversation with myself and an inside-look into my mind, with my daily self-talk/self-thoughts.  “Him” is the idea of; am I really who I think I am, or do I not truly know?

How long does it take for you to write a song and how long did this one take you write? It generally doesn’t take me too long, I just let it flow and get my thoughts and ideas on paper and then work off those ideas.  Usually it comes naturally for me, I haven’t had much writers-block or anything like that to be honest and I think that’s because I write from my heart.

What is your favorite part of this song? Why? My favorite part of the song is the hook – I just feel like it’s one of my best hooks that I’ve made because I think it’s original and catchy.  Also, my producer made the hook literally sound like it’s a conversation with my-self and being in my mind, so he really captured the concept that I was looking for.  He was able to do that right on the spot without any previous preparation. So shows his talents as well and just an example of how he’s helped my sound evolve – so shout-out to my producer Adrian Vasquez of Audiophile Media Group.

When people listen to this song, what do you want them to take away as far as message? The biggest message I want them to take away is that we are not defined by our thoughts, but rather by our actions!  I heard that quote in a book lately and it’s really stuck out to me.  The point of the song is that I believe we all have crazy thoughts, our minds think of WAY too many thoughts per day to even count, so we’re going to think of things that we don’t want to or don’t like.  Again, those thoughts don’t define WHO WE ARE; who we are is who we CHOOSE to be and the actions/decisions we take in our everyday lives!

Do you think this song represents who you are as a artist? 100% – this song represents exactly who I am as an artist because it’s honest, it’s vulnerable, and it’s from the heart.  Also, because it’s intended to help other people that can relate to having negative thoughts or maybe questioning who they are as a person to just realize it’s all good and that you’re not alone.

End with a message for the reader – I hope my music reaches you and can make some type of positive impact on your life.  That’s really why I do music and what keeps me going. If it does, please let me know because it means everything to me hearing that.  Remember to love and accept yourself, we only get one shot at this thing called life so WHY waste it being negative and being down on yourself? Change your attitude, change your thinking, and make the most of it!! Much love

HGods

What is your artist name? My artist name is HGods, which is just my name shortened, so its nothing too fancy. It was my school computer username and someone called me HGods one day so it kind of stuck.

What kind of music do you make/produce? I make a wide variety of music, while I really enjoy producing a range of EDM including House, Trap, and Dubstep, I also work with pop artists, singers, and rappers. I find that I am most creative when I dont put myself in a box and create whatever I want. Oftentimes the easiest songs for me to make are remixes, which many of my releases are. I am influenced by many things, mostly new songs I come across, but I really enjoy listening to songs made by producers that don’t take an ordinary approach to their sound. The weirder, the better! I often become inspired to make music when I’m listening to a song that I feel like I could remix, or if I’m experimenting with sound design and come across a unique or fun sound that I think I could build a song around

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I am 24 years old. I didn’t start creating music till later on in highschool, and even then I wouldn’t qualify what was being made as “music.” Though I have been studying music for much of my life and it’s always had a strong influence on me

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? My goal is to be able to make music as a full time job, travel the world DJing, and to work together with some of the greatest creative minds, not just in music but in all mediums of art. I want to grow my audience to have a platform that I can use to affect change and help people as well

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? I want people to have no expectations between each of my songs that they listen to, as each one tends to be far different than the last, I like to say I have a little something for everybody! I make music because I think it’s a powerful outlet, while many of my releases are simply fun bangers, I find that some of my production can be truly moving and I’m proud that I’ve reached a point that I can say that with confidence

Kee Valid

What is your artist name? Kee Valid

What kind of music do you make?  Hip Hop/Rap and Reggae. The music I make is inspired by living in the ghetto my whole life, being able to relate to others around the world with my lyrics. I sometimes hum in my head and make lyrics without a beat and try to fit it on a beat for fun and sometimes I listen to beats and freestyle to it.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? 19 years old is when I uploaded my first single. But, I’ve been around music my whole life playing the drums and trumpet. Also, I made a freestyle song when I was 16 years old with one of my old friends for fun. Now that I’ve realized that music is my talent, I decided to take it to the next level by making my own music.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? I want to go viral with my music and be able to touch those who feel what I feel when listening to my music. I also want to win Grammys and have platinum records all while traveling the world performing for millions of fans around the world. In addition, I want to be signed to a record label that has agreeable terms to help me develop into a greater artist and keep me organized by helping me.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? I want the reader to know that I’m from Hartford, Connecticut and I lived in Jamaica for a portion of my life. Also, I want them to know that I did more than just making music in my life. I modeled, auditioned for shows, go to college, and I also worked for every dollar I earned to invest in my music career.

JGTraveler

What is your artist name? JGTraveler

What kind of music do you make? I’m mixed genre but people mostly classify me as alternative because of my music diversity. I’ve done jazz, symphony, rock, pop, R&B, rap/hip-hop and EDM. I find myself in “my element”, though when I’m writing EDM or Jazz. Usually, my influences come from Anime as most of the stories I create I regard as such. I write my songs in such away to tell a story of a character(s) or a situation (can have lyrics or not). I sometimes collab with other producers to achieve a certain sound or lyrical feel.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I am 35 and I was 12

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? To make enough to support myself and my family.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? I chose the name JGTraveler not just because it’s derived from my my name, Othello Gooden Jr. but because of a song I wrote back in 2005 called “Traveler”. Yet, over the years, the various styles I’ve composed are the “postcards” of all the places I’ve been.

Rose Alexander-George

What is your artist name? Rose Alexander-George

What kind of music do you make? Honestly, the music makes itself. The songs are a reflection of my soul and the expressions of my subconscious. At the moment they are still all acoustic but who knows where it will go from here. I hit play on the voice recorder on my phone and listen back to what I’ve sung. I then write down the lyrics and what I played on the guitar. If I don’t record them then I never remember and the songs get lost in another realm. It’s not a conscious process. I don’t ‘write’ the songs – I just record what happens as the songs appear. It’s more of a release of energy that forms as songs. I was exposed to various genres and sounds at an early age so this must have had an impact. I was always drawn to music that had a sense of space, where I felt I could drift off into my dreams and transcend into other realms. Now I’d say I’m influenced by nature, humanity and my personal life experiences. The inspiration is infinite, music is always around us, in each and every moment, in the day to day sounds and the vibrations that surround us. Some we can hear and some we can’t but most we can feel.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I sang as I was learning to speak and wrote songs before I learnt how to spell. As a child I loved performing and putting on my own productions, I even had the choreography down too and would sometimes form little ‘temporary bands’ to perform certain songs. However, I only started to share my music last autumn. Purple Roses was the song that made me decide to do so.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? To let the music flow freely through my soul and never hide who I am. I’d just love to see what happens and let it unfold naturally.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? That there is more to discover so, for now, I’d just like them to be apart of the journey because there is a lot more to come.
