What kind of music do you make? I think I would describe my style best as ambient? This is actually a pretty hard question for me to answer. It’s mostly instrumental ambient with some r&b, reggae and blues influence. My music is typically instrumental only. I would say my biggest influences are FKJ and tash sultana (at the moment anyway.) John Mayer is also one of my biggest influences when it comes to the bluesier side of my playing. For the tracks that are on SoundCloud, it’s mostly just me being experimental with new sounds and possibilities I can find within my recording software. When it comes to recording and producing I’m still very new to it. I just started making beats and recording about 3 months ago. I want my music to really just be able to calm the soul even for just a few minutes. I want the listener to feel at ease and just sit back and forget about their surroundings for just a moment.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? Currently I’m 24, I started playing guitar in 2003 on and off over the past 17 years. I didn’t really start to take the instrument seriously until December of 2018. I had decided that making music was what I wanted to do.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? As far as my music career goes it looks like the only live music that will be happening are live streams. Something I’ve been trying to capitalize on, on my Instagram. Of course it would be awesome to monetize my music at some point but currently I’m happy to just be making music that people actually want to listen to. That’s literally just the coolest thing.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? So I think I’m gonna use this question to encourage the people reading this to pursue their passions like I finally am. I spent 6 years as a mechanic. Crawling on my hands and knees everyday over filthy ground under dirty cars. I had dropped out of high school and thought that manual labor was my only option. Fast forward six years I was absolutely miserable. I was working my life away, absolutely destroying my body. I was unhappy and unhealthy because I KNEW this was not my purpose. One day I just decided to quit, I didn’t have a plan or any savings to pay my bills with. But I knew I wasn’t ever going to go back to turning wrenches for a living. I decided to give ALL I had to playing music. I was fortunate enough to be able to line up enough side work to pay my bills and spend every single day playing guitar and figuring out how to grow a following. Now I quit my job in October of 2019. In less than I year I’m doing something that I WANT to be doing. But thats just my story, and I hope this will encourage someone else to pursue a passion or a dream of theirs. As far as my music goes, everyone just wants a little groove to listen to. I want my music to be what you hear in the back of your head when you’re looking out across the water, or taking a drive through the mountains at sunrise.  I just want my listeners to feel at peace.

Chloe Rain

What is your artist name? Chloe Rain

What kind of music do you make? I actually haven’t found the right label for my sound. I have always been asked what type of music do you make, and I haven’t ever been able to answer, because no ones sound is even close to mine. I just make my own music, and am introducing my sound in whatever way i feel. Growing up I heard a lot of amazing lyricists, and truly, poets in music. My moms favorite artists where people like Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Nas, 50 Cent. Which impacted my music taste a lot. Some of my biggest musical influences now are, Kiana Lede, Normani, Herizen, and Russ. They all just have this confidence within themselves and their art that I aspire to have, they don’t just create music, they are making art, and are amazing lyricists. Making music just comes so naturally to me, I usually throw on a beat, or will loop a sound that I have in my head and the lyrics just come to me naturally. I go on my voice memos first and record my first couple of run throughs, then I go to my notes and type what I like out, and record a demo. Then from there I decide the story of the song based on the way the production impacted me. At the end of the day I just want to make a difference in the world, if I can change even one persons life, or make one person feel less alone through my music, I’m doing something right.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? 19 and I’ve been writing songs for my siblings since I was a kid, but didn’t start taking music seriously until a little over a year ago. Growing up I did drum lessons, and was always in choir. I later got into poetry and began to write before I started seriously made music, which is way choruses and hooks come so naturally for me. But I finally found the courage to drop my first project and EP, “Torn Between Two”. There were no features, it was just me finally show casing my voice and songwriting abilities to the world. I thought it would be terrifying, but it honestly felt so natural, like this is what I was always meant to do.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? My main goal in music is to make people feel good, I want people to hear my music and be like maybe im not alone after all. I just want to make a difference in this world, amongst all the chaos, one of the few things that haven’t been taken from us during this pandemic, is creative freedom, and i’m so grateful that I can wake up everyday and work towards my aspirations, and goals. Whether i do a hundred shows, or I do ten, knowing even one person took the time out of their day to give me and my music is so special to me.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? All of my music is based off of life experience, i’m young, don’t get me wrong, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been through a lot. I don’t create to be relatable, I create based off of what i’m experiencing. Whether that be the passing of a loved one, a friendship gone wrong, or a failed relationship is up for you to decide. I try to leave pronouns out of my songs, but when I do, I make sure to use she/her pronouns because growing up, I would’ve struggled a lot less with coming to terms with my sexuality if as a kid I heard even one song with a girl having a women love interest. My songs “Probably mine” and “Sometimes” were the first time in my music I made it clear that I wasn’t straight. I will never stop creating, because it’s my passion, I will work a 9-5 for the rest of my life if it means I can continue doing what i love, and that’s making music.

S.G.

What is your artist name? S.G.

What kind of music do you make? Hip-Hop/Trap – The music I make in my opinion is original and dope. Something different from what’s flooded in the industry right now. A lot of my influences come from my family’s background and the environment I was raised in which plays a big part of my lyrics. The music I grew up listening to also had a big influence on my creativity. When I’m working on a new project, I listen to an instrumental and I try working with what comes to my mind at that moment. Or the cadence/melody I feel is right for me on the track. How you sound when you’re recording matters to the listener. Confidence matters. You can hear it in the artist. The listener can hear it through the song. So I try to be and sound as confident as I can while not trying to sound like a typical thirteen year old.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? Just recently turned thirteen in May. A lot of my songs were written and recorded while I was eleven and twelve and I just started posting songs in March of this year. I started writing songs and performing my songs to my dad and my friends when I was ten years old. I still have my collection of songs/poems. It’s always cool to look through it and see where my mind was and what I was going through at that time. Like a time machine.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? I’m in it for the long run. I want to be able to stay relevant and adapt like big Snoop, E-40, or Juicy-J. I don’t want to limit myself with who I work with or music genres. Great artists adapt and go global.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? My music may not be for everyone and I understand that. But I enjoy making the music I create and that’s important to me.

Alysa Higgins

What is your artist name? Alysa Higgins

What kind of music do you make? I make alternative, pop, R&B. My biggest influences are the weekend and Ariana grande. I like to say I’m like the female Weeknd to describe my music. It used to be Christina Aguilera when I was younger because I was always told I have a similar voice to her. But it was mostly her voice that was an influence on me not her songs.

How old are you and when did you start creating music? I am 21 and I started singing since I could talk, and writing music since I was 9.

What are your goals when it comes to your music career? My goals for my music career is to just have a big enough influence to show artists that you don’t need to be signed to a label to have a music career.

What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? I want the reader to know that in order to be something you should take the risks and never be afraid.
