What is your artist name? Chloe Rain
What kind of music do you make? I actually haven’t found the right label for my sound. I have always been asked what type of music do you make, and I haven’t ever been able to answer, because no ones sound is even close to mine. I just make my own music, and am introducing my sound in whatever way i feel. Growing up I heard a lot of amazing lyricists, and truly, poets in music. My moms favorite artists where people like Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Nas, 50 Cent. Which impacted my music taste a lot. Some of my biggest musical influences now are, Kiana Lede, Normani, Herizen, and Russ. They all just have this confidence within themselves and their art that I aspire to have, they don’t just create music, they are making art, and are amazing lyricists. Making music just comes so naturally to me, I usually throw on a beat, or will loop a sound that I have in my head and the lyrics just come to me naturally. I go on my voice memos first and record my first couple of run throughs, then I go to my notes and type what I like out, and record a demo. Then from there I decide the story of the song based on the way the production impacted me. At the end of the day I just want to make a difference in the world, if I can change even one persons life, or make one person feel less alone through my music, I’m doing something right.
How old are you and when did you start creating music? 19 and I’ve been writing songs for my siblings since I was a kid, but didn’t start taking music seriously until a little over a year ago. Growing up I did drum lessons, and was always in choir. I later got into poetry and began to write before I started seriously made music, which is way choruses and hooks come so naturally for me. But I finally found the courage to drop my first project and EP, “Torn Between Two”. There were no features, it was just me finally show casing my voice and songwriting abilities to the world. I thought it would be terrifying, but it honestly felt so natural, like this is what I was always meant to do.
What are your goals when it comes to your music career? My main goal in music is to make people feel good, I want people to hear my music and be like maybe im not alone after all. I just want to make a difference in this world, amongst all the chaos, one of the few things that haven’t been taken from us during this pandemic, is creative freedom, and i’m so grateful that I can wake up everyday and work towards my aspirations, and goals. Whether i do a hundred shows, or I do ten, knowing even one person took the time out of their day to give me and my music is so special to me.
What do you want the reader to know about you and your music? All of my music is based off of life experience, i’m young, don’t get me wrong, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been through a lot. I don’t create to be relatable, I create based off of what i’m experiencing. Whether that be the passing of a loved one, a friendship gone wrong, or a failed relationship is up for you to decide. I try to leave pronouns out of my songs, but when I do, I make sure to use she/her pronouns because growing up, I would’ve struggled a lot less with coming to terms with my sexuality if as a kid I heard even one song with a girl having a women love interest. My songs “Probably mine” and “Sometimes” were the first time in my music I made it clear that I wasn’t straight. I will never stop creating, because it’s my passion, I will work a 9-5 for the rest of my life if it means I can continue doing what i love, and that’s making music.
